I am starting my blog today. It's 2 months away from the next South African election and it's time to really look at the absurdities, even madness, spewing from the mouths of politicians. It's hard to believe what is going on here.
We have to bear in mind, this country is in a stage of development - politically, economically and socially. We would therefore assume that most citizens want to be led by honest, ethical and educated people. But when one of the top ranking members of the ruling party (the leader of the ANC Youth league, Julius Malema) openly states that "we want an uneducated president", then you must know there's trouble in the land!
As a media lecturer and analyst, I will be following pre-election print media coverage and making comments - from my own point of view, of course, but also hopefully ones that make some sense and help to start debate on this topic.
